Valley Metro Celebrates Transit Equity Day with Fare-Free Service on February 4
At Valley Metro, we believe that public transit is a fundamental right-a key part of connecting people to jobs, education, healthcare, and their communities. That's why we're proud to offer fare-free rides all day on Tuesday, February 4, For Transit Equity Day.
Transit Equity Day is recognized annually on February 4, the birthday of civil rights icon Rosa Parks. Her stand against segregation on public transit in 1955 helped spark the movement for racial and economic justice. Today, this observance highlights the importance of affordable and accessible public transportation for all.
What This Means for You
On February 4, all Valley Metro bus services will be completely free to ride, including fixed-route buses, STAR, Smart Way, Smart Way Express, and MetroFLX.
Why Transit Equity Matters
Public transportation plays a crucial role in creating equitable, sustainable, and connected communities. When transit is accessible, it helps to bridge gaps in opportunity-ensuring that everyone, regardless of income or ability, can get where they need to go.
At Valley Metro, we're committed to expanding transit access, improving service, and advocating for equitable mobility solutions. Transit Equity Day recognizes the progress we've made while also reaffirming our dedication to a system that serves everyone.
