About Us
Valley Metro, officially the Greater Roanoke Transit Company, has been the Roanoke Valley’s public transit provider since 1975. Previously a private system, it transitioned to public ownership under the City of Roanoke and now operates as a private, non-profit public service. Valley Metro offers fixed-route bus services, commuter connections to the New River Valley, and paratransit services for individuals with disabilities.

Operations are managed through a contract with TransDev, Inc., with funding from federal, state, and local agencies, as well as fare revenue, advertising, and bus pass sales. The Roy Z. Meador Operations Facility at 1108 Campbell Avenue, SE, houses administration, dispatch, and maintenance, where buses are serviced and repaired in-house. The Third Street Station Transportation Center, located in downtown Roanoke, serves as the primary transit hub, connecting riders to key business, shopping, and cultural destinations.
For more information, visit 1108 Campbell Avenue SE or call 540-982-2222 (Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:30 PM).

The Third Street Station Transportation Center is situated in the heart of the downtown Roanoke business and shopping district. Located at 325 Salem Avenue SW, Third Street Station is just a few blocks away from Roanoke's Historic City Market, where a variety of festivals and events take place throughout the year.
The Greater Roanoke Transit Company owns Third Street Station. The GRTC Board of Directors governs the policies and operational procedures of the facility, as well as approval of all tenants.
